In less than 16 hours the polls will be open for voters. There are many great candidates to choose from. It is very important to get out and vote. Don't forget to flip your ballot to choose a precinct delegate.
Here I will list the names of candidates that I feel fit the bill.
Shiawassee County Commissioners
District 1 : Republican candidate Nichole Bruff :)
District 2: Democrat candidate Gary Martenis. While I don't agree with him on every issue, he is on the same page as I am. He wants to make big changes here in Shiawassee County. I have a great amount of respect for him.
District 3: Republican candidate Gary Holzhausen. Gary is a former drain commissioner and business owner.
District 4: Republican candidate Cloyse Lundie.
District 5: Democrat candidate Paul Ray.
District 6: Democrat candidate Patrick Gray
District 7: Republican candidate Jeremy Loos
Now onto State Senate

I am going to pick 2. First pick is David Lazar. Second pick is Harold Kuisel. Both men have what it takes to represent us in Lansing.
Democrat Pam Drake is running unopposed on the Democrat ticket. She is also a wonderful lady, but I must vote Republican tomorrow.

Republicans Rick Snyder or Pete Hoekstra.
If you are a Democrat, Virg Benero is the lesser of two evils.

Letter to the Editor in response to Dennis Hrcka
This letter is in response to Dennis Hrcka’s letter published July 22nd 2010.
Once I decided to run for county commissioner, I knew that I would be asked to participate in various questionnaires. I understood this is just part of politicking. The first one that I received was from the Shiawassee County Tea Party. I had prior knowledge that my opponent put this Litmus test together. He helped create the questions. Therefore, he knew the right way to answer them. I felt that he had the unfair advantage since he was/is the secretary of said group. I called my opponent and explained why I would not be participating in it. In my opinion, an opponent should remove oneself from any type of process they are participating in. Period.
I then received the RTL questionnaire. I feel very strongly about life so I participated. In the past, I thought that it was extremely important for a candidate to be endorsed by Right to Life. Since participating, I realized, that this is just as self serving as any other special interest group.
Once I arrived to the interview with the local sub committee, I knew that I wouldn’t be endorsed, no matter what my views are. Three of the five interviewing, are also people I saw at the Tea Party meeting in May 2010.
Needless to say, I did not get the endorsement, my opponent did. I then was curious to know who made the final decision on endorsements. I spoke with a gentleman from Grand Rapids. He explained to me that while I met all criteria, the sub committee made the final choice.
So you see, I am now skeptical of any endorsement a candidate or incumbent receives.
My motives are not at odd as Mr. Hrcka would like you to think. I just feel that the public needs to know how the vetting process work.
I am running to make a difference in this county. The county government doesn’t want me to be elected. They know that I am not afraid to represent the best interests of the people. The only allegiance I have is to the public, not the administration.

Rick Snyder for Governor
Rick " One tough nerd" Snyder is running on the Republican ticket for the governor.
Michigan is in dire need of job creation. Who other than Rick Snyder?
He isn't a career politician. He has a proven track record of job growth with companies that he has worked for.
He is also the founder of HealthMedia Inc., which has produced 130 jobs in Michigan. This is just the tip of the iceberg. He has invested in many other companies here in Michigan. What other candidate can say they have done this?
There are "rumors" floating around that Rick is not Pro-Life. That couldn't be farther from the truth.
Special Interest groups, like Right To Life, push their own propaganda during election season.
Rick Snyder chose not to participate with or take monies from any special interest group. In fact, when Mr. Snyder received the questionnaire from Right To Life, he sent a letter explaining just that. Now this special interest group is making it known to anyone that will listen, that he was not endorsed?
I am Pro-Life and wasn't endorsed either. It isn't the end of the world. We have bigger issues to deal with here in this wonderful state. Bringing jobs to Michigan. I have faith that Rick Snyder has the ability to do just that.

Happy 234th Birthday America!
Today is the day that most American's celebrate our independence. The founding fathers who assisted in writing the Declaration were: Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman.
July 2nd 1776 was the day that the Continental Congress had a meeting in Philadelphia and actually voted and passed a resolution for independence.
Yet on July 4th, the Congress actually voted on a revised version of the Declaration of Independence.
The Declaration was not signed until August 2nd 1776. And still some signers didn't place their names on it until the end of August 1776.
The first noted celebration of Independence Day wasn't until July 4th 1778.
What brought this to be? Taxation without representation. The 13 colonies of the United States were under the rule of England's King George III. The colonies were forced to pay taxes but did not have representation in the England Parliament.
On July 8th 1776 the first public reading of the Declaration was read at Philadelphia's Independence Square. A bell was rung that was renamed " Liberty Bell" This bell was inscribed with the following :
Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof
The big celebrations of this day did not start until the early 1800's.
So there is a little history lesson for this remarkable day.

Right to Life of Michigan
Today I received notice telling me that I would not be endorsed by Right to Life. I couldn't figure out why since my stances on life align with theirs. This is the only Litmus that I felt the need to fill out. I stand firm behind my beliefs on life.
One of my opponents did get the endorsement.
I called Right to Life PAC committee this morning to inquire about the decision.
Since there are 3 people running in my district and one is considered pro-choice, they will only endorse one candidate. While I met the criteria, they won't endorse me.
Let me be frank, I knew from the moment I walked into the interview that I wouldn't get the endorsement. 3 of the 5 interviewers belong to the Shiawassee County 912 committee. One of my opponents is an active member of this group.
Mr. Miller, from Right to Life, said that the PAC subcommittee ( the ones interviewing) made the recommendation. How convenient. This committee was not able to make an unbiased recommendation based on the relationship held with my opponent. They should have removed themselves from the vetting process.
The 9/12 commission, otherwise known as the Tea Party, has the same views that I embrace.
One of those are being honest, and not using the ladder based on who you know to get you elected. They want to get elected to make an honest change that benefits all.
Let me be clear, I do not blame this on my opponent. I just feel that it was done in a back door way.
This just further solidifies why I will not participate in the political functions from this point forward.
My only goal is to make sure our monies are spent wisely, there is more transparency and breaking up the good old boy network.

Shiawassee County 912 Commission
Today, I received a candidate questionnaire from our local Tea Party/912 Commission. I was forewarned that I would be getting one of these in the mail.
The Shiawassee County 912 Commission is more aligned with the Tea Party. I do not have an issue with either of these groups. In fact, I respect the movement in general. I suspect that in the near future, this group will become a recognized political party within the United States.
I have researched both the 912 Project and Tea Party. The 9/12 Project stands for 9 principals and 12 values. Here is a link to their mission statement: the912project

Personally, I have an issue with the candidate questionnaire. First, my opponent Tom Landino is the secretary of this local group. Second, he helped put together these questions.
The conspiracy theorist mind is turning. What if I was to fill this out and the group tabulates my "score" and I get everything wrong. Only they know the right "answers". It would also be fair for me to think that my opponent knows all the "correct" ways to answer these questions that he helped formulate.
Here is one of the questions on the sheet: When does life begin? My opinion is when conception takes place. Others do not feel the same way. This is a Federal issue. I cannot over turn Roe v Wade.
The answers to chose from are : 1. At conception 2. Upon reaching the 3rd trimester 3. At birth. 4. Upon becoming a human being ( age 2)
In all honesty, I can't respond to this request. The questions range from Unions and their affects on society, things that should be enumerated into the Bill of Rights, and types of companies that should receive tax breaks.
From what I understand, this group will send out mailers to registered voters on where each candidate stands on issues and possibly to the local papers. What is their formula for tabulating the answers to these questions? Who will tabulate them?
